Camcorder tapes come in many shapes and sizes. At Coogan Digital, we convert everything - including Hi8, Digital8, and DV tapes.

Hi8, also known as High8 or Video8, is a video cassette tape format that is the most standard for camcorders. Digital8 is a format that stores a digital signal on Hi8 tape. They look identical but each require a specific camera to play. DV tapes are similar to Digital 8 but use a smaller tape.

Hi8 tapes are 8mm wide and can hold up to 2 hours of video in standard play (SP) mode and up to 4 hours in long play (LP) mode.

Hi8 can wear out over time. Physical wear and tear, oxidation and moisture, temperature, and loss of magnetic stability contribute to deterioration of these tapes.
